Focus and Scope
Koers is an influential, frequently cited, accredited peer-reviewed and open-access journal published since 1935. Koers promotes the development of Christian scholarship/science in all fields of science and publishes original (mainly reflective) research contributions with an integrated worldview as foundation. We provide a platform for authors to engage constructively and critically with Christian scholarly/scientific points of view in all fields of science.
Peer Review Process
Koers makes use of a double-blind peer review process. During this process, the manuscripts are sent to the editorial staff. After the initial examination, the editorial staff decides whether the manuscript is worth considering. If so, the editor appoints two reviewers who are experts in the field. They conduct their reviews of the manuscript independently. The identity of the author(s) is never revealed to the reviewers nor does the author(s) know the identity of the reviewers. The Editor compiles a report after receiving reviewer recommendations and/or comments and may send it to the author(s).
Publication Frequency
In 2017 Koers decided to publish articles on a rolling publication basis.
This means that articles will be published as soon as they are ready, without having to wait for an entire volume to be filled. At the end of a calendar year, these articles will be compiled and printed in a single or multiple hard-copy editions. In this way, Koers aims to speed up the process of manuscript publication from submission to becoming available on the website.
This means that there is only one volume per year.
Special issues may be added on an ad hoc basis to the journal throughout a particular year and will form part of consecutive issues thereafter.
Open Access Policy
Open Access is the immediate, online, free availability of research outputs as published in Koers, without the severe restrictions on use commonly imposed by publisher copyright agreements. There are however usage limitations in accordance with the Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) usage license. This license allows for redistribution, commercial and non-commercial, as long as it is passed along unchanged, with appropriate credit to the author.
Open Access
Koers is an Open Access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the BOAI definition of Open Access.
Page fees
Upon submission of a research article authors of tertiary institutions in South Africa undertake, should the article be approved for publication, to pay the prescribed publication fee/page fees (2024: R780 per page for a PDF page with 590 words/page). Authors can, however, usually have the page fees refunded from the Research Committee of their respective institutions. Page fees are subject to annual review. Take note that there are no submission charges. Page fees are only applicable once the article is published.
There is an average of seven pages per article.
